DESIGNER DOMICILE :: Luxury Kitchen Showroom • Monogram Appliances Experience Center

We finally did it.  With strong will and a lot of determination, Designer Domicile is finally open after more than 3 years of planning.  Designer Domicile (at that time, still unnamed) was first conceived in the fall of 2018 as a co-working space for Pasadena interior designers.  A place where not only they could work and have all the tools they need at their fingertips, but also a place to learn and network.  Why do we call it “The Domicile”?  Because it is a home for interior designers. Not only is it a home for interior designers but it is a comprehensive kitchen design center and has all the best product one would need when designing a luxury kitchen. We are proud of our new Pasadena kitchen showroom and hope that you’ll stop by to enjoy what we’ve put together.

A Collaboration with Monogram Appliances

During the process of designing the space, we connected with Monogram Appliances, and what started out as a small break room for the interior designers utilizing our space quickly morphed into not only a full scale showroom, but a signature Experience Center, complete with two kitchens and a bar – a real kitchen design center with all the bells and whistles. Twenty one appliances in total, from both the Signature and Minimalist Collections are represented in an installation that rivals what is often only seen in showcase homes.  (It also helps that we’ve designed kitchens for the Pasadena Showcase House…and we’re also doing the kitchen and butler’s pantry in the 2022 house which recently opened.

OPPORTUNITY FOR DESIGNERS

Our Pasadena kitchen design showroom was designed as an opportunity for the designer to educate their clients on the types of amenities that should be seen in a luxury kitchen or home bar.  It’s funny how you raise the bar and suddenly what the client sees is what they want.  And in case you’re wondering, as much as we love to service Pasadena interior designers and the design trade, we’re also open to the public.

Until now, there hasn’t been a kitchen design center in Pasadena where the focus is on the kitchen as a whole.  Of course there are several appliance showrooms in the area, but the main focus in an appliance showroom is the appliances.  But in my opinion, everything else that goes into a kitchen is just as important and it is important for the consumer to see the appliances in the full context of a residential space, as those additional layers play an equal or even greater role of speaking to our emotions.

In the Statement Kitchen, we also saw the perfect opportunity  to bring in one of our favorite vendors, Thompson Traders to show their custom capabilities with their custom range hood program.  We took an existing hood from The Quintana Collection and modified the 48″ wide hood to accommodate our whopping 88″ span.  The Quintana Collections happens to be designed by my friend, Greensboro, NC designer Kara Cox, and because of that I am even more thrilled.  This goes to show that by collaborating we can all elevate one another.  Thompson Traders has been an invaluable resource for our own kitchen projects and we are now a dealer and can assist the trade and public in putting together specifications and orders for their projects.  We also recently used one of their hoods in our kitchen for the 2022 Pasadena Showcase House.

THE MINIMALIST KITCHEN

We dialed it up a notch with our Minimalist Kitchen, which features walnut and satin black lacquered panels mixed with blackened steel base cabinets.  To offset the masculine vibe, we added an element of glam with the custom polished/burnished brass hardware. The styling and details have a sexy, organic modern vibe.  My friend, Austin designer Patrick Landrum described it as a “Modern Speakeasy” and I kind of like that description.  It has a certain “je ne sais quoi” feeling about it.

Below the brass Hearth Oven  is currently empty, but that’s because the rolling butcher block cart that is supposed to be tucked underneath, is currently making an appearance in the kitchen of the 2022 Pasadena Showcase House.  Once the show is over it will be back at home in our showroom.

The bar is flanked with two integrated refrigeration units on each end.  On one end is the Monogram integrated Glass Front Refrigerator, and on the opposite end is the Fully integratedWine Sommelier, which looks identical to the Integrated Glass Front Refrigerator on the outside but on the inside has two temperature zones for wine in the upper compartment and in total holds up to 106 bottles of wine!  There is a freezer drawer in the middle that also makes ice, and then down below is an ample convertible drawer which has the flexibility to set the temperature to your needs.  The bar is perfect for entertaining with everything you need at arm’s reach and a pretty display up top.
