Dwell on Design 2016
One of my favorite trade shows, Dwell on Design 2016, starts today and best yet is that it is right here in my own backyard. Dwell on Design, now in its 11th year, will be held at the Los Angeles Convention Center starting today, Friday June 24 for the trade, and June 25-26 for trade and the general public. As always, this year’s show is sure to bring together the best in modern design all under one roof. As a member of the press, I’ve been alerted to a few new things that will be sure to make this year’s show one not to be missed and I wanted to share what I’ll be looking for once my feet hit the show floor this morning.
Dwell on Design | IMM Cologne Partnership
This year Dwell on Design 2016 is partnering with imm cologne, an international furnishing and interiors show held annually in Cologne, Germany. This partnership expands the show’s reach beyond the US by showcasing international brands and designers. Collaboration has become a key trend in the design world, and this latest partnership will ensure a further and more global reach for Dwell on Design 2016. Onstage programming throughout the duration of the show will be co-curated by imm cologne creative director Dick Spierenburg and Dwell editor-in-chief Amanda Dameron, and the content presented will put the spotlight on emerging designers and the advances in technology that lead to the industry’s most innovative product and materials.

New Products
Preview of Products from Sony
Wireless Glass Speaker
Sony’s new wireless glass speaker features a dimmable LED bulb coupled with crystal-clear audio. The result mimics listening to live music under warm, ambient candlelight.
LED Bulb Speaker
The new Sony LED Bulb Speaker is just that— an LED light bulb and speaker rolled into one. Simply screw it into an existing light socket and it is ready to go, all without the need for batteries, cables, or charging. 192 color options are available to personalize the experience and an intuitive remote control or smartphone app makes controlling the color/brightness and speaker a cinch!
LivingHome from Plant Prefab
Plant is the first home factory in the US to focus on sustainable construction. Sustainable design has been a growing movement but even though it is more environmentally friendly than traditional methods of construction, it has not always been the most cost effective. Plant has changed that by making it their mission to build environmentally responsible and healthy homes that are just as custom and high-quality as they are cost effective. LivingHome is Plant’s first project and will serve as Dwell on Design 2016’s official show home.
Dwell on Design 2016 opens today, Friday June 24 to the trade and to the public on Saturday, June 25 at 10:00 am. Design Enthusiasts have options for 1- or 2-Day passes with prices ranging from $35 to $50 and can be purchased online or at the door. For a complete listing of package options and fees, visit the registration page of the DODLA event site.
I hope to see you there!
