Sherwin-Williams Colormix 2015
After much anticipation, the Sherwin-Williams Colormix 2015 palettes were introduced at Las Vegas Market, and I happened to be there to hear the scoop. Sherwin-Williams Colormix 2015 consists of four color palettes: Chrysalis, Voyage, Buoyant, Unrestrained, and provides the consumer with inspiration for their upcoming painting and home design projects. Colors are not chosen arbitrarily, and countless hours of thought and research goes into choosing each color palette, and even more will go into choosing what will become the 2015 Sherwin-Williams Color of the Year in a few weeks time.
One of the key players responsible for choosing the color palettes year after year for Sherwin-Williams is Jackie Jordan, Director of Color Marketing, who I had the pleasure of chatting with this past January while in Salt Lake City for Alt Summit. According to Jordan, “The state of color is constantly changing and gathers influence from the world around us,” and because of this she travels the world drawing influence from fashion, pop culture, nature and global traditions to identify emerging color trends.
Chrysalis
Chrysalis has a softer focus, and it’s premise is creating a space to soothe. This muted color palette is influenced by several factors. Among them, the Earth’s natural striations, deconstructed geometry, extreme monochrome/tone on tone. Chrysalis is a chalky, softer palette where boundaries are often blurred.
Voyage
Voyage is influenced by supernatural color. From the electrical/magnetic events that take place in the atmosphere such as the aurora borealis, to space tourism aboard Richard Branson’s Virgin Galactic and visits to underwater resorts such as Poseidon Undersea Resorts, The Water Discus or the underwater restaurant at the Conrad Maldives, Voyage draws its inspiration from exploration and areas in our universe that have only recently become possible for us to visit. The colors are somewhat moody and evoke a feeling of mystery and the supernatural.
Buoyant
The Buoyant color palette represents a new optimism. Big, bright florals, references to the rainforest, and engineered nature seen in today’s green spaces are what dictate the Buoyant color palette.
Unrestrained
The Unrestrained palette is exactly that – an unrestrained, bohemian palette of bold, ethnically inspired brights that reflect the “Gypset” lifestyle (Gypset – n. an unconventional, bohemian approach to life. -adj characterized by a fashionable exoticism and down-to-earth ease) Unrestrained consists of color that makes a statement, be it alone or paired with any of the other colors in the palette.
