Hans Wegner (1914-2007) was a Danish furniture designer whose style is often described as “Organic Functionality” – a modernist approach with emphasis on functionality. Along with Finn Juhl, Arne Jacobsen, among others, Wegner was considered a master of 20th century Danish Modernism. During his prolific career, he designed over 200 chairs and even had Danish King Frederick IX wait two years to deliver his order – until Wegner felt he had perfected his design. Recently I have seen many chairs similar to those designed (and inspired) by Wegner, popping up around the contemporary furniture market.
Original Hans Wegner Chair Designs
As much as I would like to purchase an original, currently my budget does not allow for it, so here I have included a few alternatives to a Hans Wegner original. Not the same, but definitely a more affordable option!
