Zebra and Shagreen – Not your average animal skins, but hotter than ever at High Point Market

Zebra and Shagreen were seen all throughout market.  If the actual hide/skin wasn’t used, it was printed, embossed, manipulated so that it looked like the real thing.  Forget about leopard or cheetah skins – zebra and shagreen were the two skins that dominated the market!

ZEBRA

Scalamandré’s return of the iconic zebra print and wallpaper in addition to their recent partnership with Lenox and Eastern Accents has sparked a renewed interest in all things zebra, especially when paired with red.

Arteriors Home

Arteriors Home  had a great story of zebra, black, white and red which was not to be missed.  With the stunning red chandeliers hovering from above, how COULD you miss it?

SHAGREEN

Shagreen was seen on the surface of many high end products using both the actual shark or ray hide and embossed leather that has been treated to look like shagreen.  I love shagreen because it is one of the few things that can look either feminine or masculine, depending on what it is paired with.  The desk below would look equally at home in a bachelor pad with a chunky dark brown leather chair or in a lady’s dressing room paired with a dainty white tibetan sheep covered gold leaf bench or stool.

I’ve included close up shots of both embossed leather shagreen and actual shagreen hide.  Can you tell the difference?  Guess which one is which and let’s see who can get it right!

Have a great day!
