There’s something about a blue velvet sofa that makes me swoon every time I come across one in a magazine. If you saw Sex and the City 2 and took notice of Carrie Bradshaw’s living space, you would have seen the blue velvet sofa pictured below centered against the wall in her ultra chic living room.

When you have a blue velvet sofa in the room, there’s really no need for wallpaper or to paint the wall a fancy color. The blue velvet sets the tone and is the center of attention. As you’ll notice, all the photographs in this post have either white or very pale grey walls, using pops of color throughout to bring interest and texture to the room.
One of my favorite looks is incorporating black and white with the navy blue sofa. Below is a black and white striped rug is used and below that is a white cowhide rug printed in a zebra motif, which brings life and whimsy to the room.
With velvet and the color blue, there’s bound to be tufting involved, as what better way to bring out the subtle sheen of velvet. With the highs and lows in the texture that tufting provides, the shadows and highlights are accentuated, creating more drama.
Below is my selection of blue velvet sofas that can be purchased online. Different shades of blue and one chair that I saw at High Point last April that I absolutely had to include because it was that good. Here
it is plated in gold.
If you can wait the 8-12 weeks, go for a custom order and you’ll have the advantage of picking out the exact size and shape of your sofa along with more upholstery selections. Doing so, however, requires the assistance of an interior designer as most fabrics and services are only available “to the trade”. Below are some of my favorite sofa silhouettes for blue velvet and below that is a selection of deep blue velvets to get you started on your search for your dream sofa.
