New York Fashion Week Fall 2013 Highlights – Part 2

New York Fashion Week, Fall 2013 – Part Two

And so my coverage of Fall 2013 NYFW continues…

Trina Turk
For the first time for this California contemporary label to show at NYFW, Trina Turk sure hit a home run.  Her debut at Fashion Week marked her entry into the fashion arena as a real ready to wear hitter, not just a resort pool wear resource, which has been her signature look until now.  The deep array of color that she brought to Fashion Week did not go unnoticed. Fun, young, fresh, and sassy…Trina Turk.
Tory Burch
Tory hinted to Art Nouveau and the era romanticism by looking to German painter Gustav Klimt, best known for his painting, “The Kiss”, for inspiration for her fall 2013 collection.  High necks, dainty cap sleeves, skirts below the knee, and silhouettes barely skimming the body.  There were plenty of luxurious fabrics and interesting accessories, but nothing remotely fresh or sexy about Tory’s collection, which would be better suited to be worn by my someone my mother’s age.  But then again, that very well may be her target customer. Regardless of what other fashion critics may say, Tory’s collection was a bit of a disappointment for me.  I think that with all her lucrative licensing deals she has lost sight of what put her name on the map.
3.1 Phillip Lim
Phillip Lim looked to biker jackets and biker wear for his Fall 2013 collection.  He included many variations of the traditional biker jacket, biker vest, biker patch covered denim,  but successfully put a feminine twist on all his pieces.  Zippers, hip slung messenger bags, shearling coats, he had it all, and it all worked.  HUGE thumbs up for this collection.
My question is why did he name his company 3.1 as opposed to any other number?  Did he have 2 other lines prior to this?  Normally the Chinese use the auspicious number 8 for good luck.  I personally think his line should be called “8.8 Phillip Lim” – for good luck and double fortune, but that’s me.
A very Happy Valentine’s Day to all of you.  What will your special honey be treating you to today?  Well I haven’t received flowers yet (that is a good sign).  Let’s see if mine actually read my post on Valentine’s Gifts for Her I posted a while back.  Want to place your bets?
