So here it is - my perfect workspace. Lots of natural sunlight, large work area, ample storage, bright white walls (which are necessary when working with color all day), everything within arm's reach, a wall for pictures, a comfortable task chair, and most importantly, a door.

The last few weeks I have been spending a LOT of time at my desk, finishing up my last few projects designing clothing before I make the big switch over to interior design full time in a month's time. As I sit at my desk for hours on end, I can't help imagine what I'll do with my current workspace once I make the transition.
I would like more than anything to have my own office with a door - my own little sanctuary, if you will, where I can close the door and forget about all the other worries in the household. However, with two young boys who are constantly getting into trouble, I have my desk situated out in the open where I can keep an eye on them both - in a corner of my family room, where I can also see what is going on and can play referee from across the room, if need be.

Above is a picture of my workspace - Command Central, I like to call it. A Mac Pro, two Wacom tablets (one being a Cintiq tablet monitor, enables me to make sure my 13 year old is actually doing his homework and not checking sports scores or playing Minecraft on his computer in his bedroom) Gotta LOVE Apple Screen Share. (Parents - let me know if you would like more info on this - it's easy to set up and my child feels like he has some independence, yet I can watch his screen from another room without having to hover over him)
Unfortunately working from home and having my desk out in the open comes with a price tag - my kids can see me too, which means that they are constantly interrupting me and my concentration is not what it should be. For example, my 7 year old is currently obsessed with apples and is constantly asking me to cut them up for him. I know - I should make him bite into it and eat it whole, but he has no front teeth. So I cut them up for him every time - call me a softie... Another thing, he loves Spongebob, whose voice makes me absolutely cringe. Luckily, I always have my Bose noise canceling headphones nearby to maintain my sanity while working. My Bose headphones - hands down, the most invaluable piece of equipment in my house!

I love that this home office adds a touch of glam with the chandelier above and the cozy little chairs. I would, however, change the desk chairs. A comfortable desk chair is SOOO important. My favorite is the Herman Miller Aeron chair, which is what I have at my own desk.

I love the open shelving and how the magazines are organized above the desk so that they are aesthetically pleasing. How fun are the pops of chartreuse green throughout? Ok, I think I need to run out and buy myself one of the apple green Eames chairs. Gorgeous, aren't they? A perfectly stylish office in the kitchen. The four panels of artwork in the center make a statement on the wall and the bookcase with woven baskets on either side makes for a nicely balanced composition.

Last but not least, a cute and cozy office. The colors are so warm and inviting! I love the custom cabinetry in dove grey and the way the aqua and coral objects are juxtaposed to create visual interest around the framed artwork in the center, the focal point of the room. Very clever!
